DRESSES THAT WORK FOR SUMMER AND FALL!

As much as we might love summer, the longer days, the sunshine…it’s no denying that fall is right around the corner. Are you looking forward to fall or want to extend summer just a bit longer? I’m indifferent about the season change. I am looking forward a bit to the chillier days and being able to bundle up again. Not to mention hot coffee and candle season! But I also love the summer sun.
Something that can get a bit difficult is trying to transition out summer clothes into more fall appropriate outfits. That’s why I have made this blog post with a couple of dresses that are great for summer but will also transition into fall. There are definitely a few more hot days left this year so dresses are still a necessity to me. This black maxi dress is a perfect example of a dress that is cool enough for summer but would pair great with boots for fall. Layer it up with a cardigan or a sweater over and it’s even more fall ready! Midi and maxi dresses are the best dresses for transitioning from season to season.
Also, can’t get enough of the buttons up dresses this season apparently! Anyone else?

A BRAND YOU NEED TO KNOW!

Earlier this summer when I was searching for outfits for my big desert trip, I happened to stumble upon this brand, Nice Things Palomas, and I instantly became a big fan! Their clothing is so effortlessly cool and the epitome of easy, casual summer. A lot of their pieces look like little works of art. The best thing about them, is their price point is fairly reasonable as well! This top was one of the first things that caught my eye while shopping on their site. Chartreuse has been such a popular color is summer and I was excited to try it out myself. Plus green has always been my favorite color! The wrap design is so cute and chic and pairs perfectly with denim as well. I paired this look with a fun statement earring from local Portland brand, Natalie Joy. Pink and green together is always so great, I think too.

We took so many different outfits while in Los Angeles on the trip, but this one is definitely one of my favorites. I know a lot of bloggers often get gifted pieces for free, myself included, but I love buying pieces on my own still. I bought both of the pants and top in this look and it really just feels like I am really sharing my true personal style, no strings attached.
I would love to know what kind of outfits you would like to see this fall! I am already brainstorming what kind of looks I want to share!

Lately, I’ve been purchasing less and less from fast fashion companies. When I first started my blog, I shopped a lot at Forever 21 and also vintage shopping too. But as I’ve gotten older, I’ve really tried to purchase more investment pieces and be more aware of my purchasing habits. Obviously, I’m not perfect and here and there I will purchase a piece from a fast fashion shop, in this case this top. I wanted to show some more affordable options as well for you all! When I do wear fast fashion pieces, I like to pair them with either vintage/thrifted pieces and or pieces that are from small brands.
Every summer, I am reminded of the heat and forced to really be minimal with what I wear in order to stay comfortable and cool! A lace top and denim will always be a part of my wardrobe and this is basically my summer version of this look
I wish I could write more, but I’ve had a long week and can’t think of what else to write here! My little brother was visiting the past few days and I am ready for a little bit of a rest! I might pour myself a glass of wine after this. lol 😉

I TRIED 4 “OUTDOOR VOICES” PIECES ~REVIEW~

dawnphotography-393 dawnphotography-402 dawnphotography-400 dawnphotography-390 dawnphotography-421 dawnphotography-408 dawnphotography-411

I’m pretty sure I’ve mentioned this in the past, but a growing up (from 5 years old until I was a senior in high school) I was an athlete. Soccer and track were my main sports but I did pretty well when it came to other physical activities or sports I tried. I even was offered a scholarship to a small community college but I decided to turn it down in order to really pursue blogging. Anyways, so as an adult now, I’ve been trying to get back into my healthy routine and start making running a part of my life again. I run on a treadmill, nothing too fancy, but it’s peaked my interest in activewear again. Outdoor Voices is a brand I’ve been seeing pop up recently all over my instagram feed and I’ve heard friends talk about it so I had been wanting to try it out for myself. The brand kind of reminds me of the “Glossier” of activewear, anyone feel the same?
Anyways, so I thought I would do a post and share my opinion of the pieces I tried! I was gifted the pieces from a PR company but this is in no way a paid post. I thought this just might be of interest and helpful for you! So I was gifted four different pieces, two of them I am wearing in the photos above.
HERE WE GO!
This is honestly your standard cropped tank/sports bra. I love that the coverage goes down a bit more under the chest so that I do feel more comfortable wearing it as a top. The fabric is really soft, no itchy tags or anything and it dries fairly quickly. I am pretty flat chested, so I don’t know how good this bra would be for bustier chests. But overall, I like this bra/crop!
PROS: Quick drying, Full/Longer Coverage, Soft Fabric/No Itchy Tag
CONS: Might not be suitable/Supportive for larger busts
Ok, these are probably my least favorite from the four pieces I tried. These leggings are SO comfy and soft, which I think makes them most suitable for running errands or lounging around the house. But when I tried to actually exercise in these, I noticed myself having to pull them up a lot and that got annoying after awhile. I really wanted to love these because of the style. But I think I will use these mostly at home or for a Target run.
PROS: Soft Frabic
CONS: Tend to fall down/have to constantly pull them up during exercise
These are my new favorite leggings! I was most excited to try these out, mostly because I love the design and color blocking. But what is even better is that these leggings are comfortable, great for running/physical activity and they’re stylish! I definitely see myself getting a second color way soon. I honestly don’t have anything negative to say about these leggings. They didn’t leave my legs this entire weekend at the coast!
PROS: Comfortable, Stay put during exercise, Pocket for cards/money
CONS: None!
Bike shorts are SO popular right now and I am all about them! I was super exited to try these out. I love the available color options and thought they would be fun to pair with graphic tees and sneakers for a quick on the go look. These shorts are super soft and comfortable, just like all of the other Outdoor Voices pieces. The one thing I don’t like about these shorts is that they ride up just after taking a few steps. I constantly have to pull them down which gets really annoying after awhile. I think if these shorts were a tad bit longer as well as a bit more of a tighter fabric, they would be perfect. But they’ve been great for wear around the house or working at at home!
PROS: Soft, comfortable, wide band
CONS: Tend to ride up legs after movement
There you have it! My honest Outdoor Voices review! Overall, I really like the brand and would suggest trying them out. The pieces are all really comfortable and soft. They also offer interesting and trendy color ways which is nice. But there are some pieces that are ideal for the exercise I do. This could be different for someone else, this was just my experience and I wanted to share!
Let me know what is on your current Outdoor Voices wishlist!

You Gotta Fast Car – 90s Inspired Summer Dress

dawnphotography-86 dawnphotography-92 dawnphotography-108 dawnphotography-112 dawnphotography-122 dawnphotography-117 dawnphotography-98 dawnphotography-103 dawnphotography-116 dawnphotography-94 dawnphotography-124

Every gal needs a little floral mini this time of year. Perfect to beat the heat and a great go to for hanging out with friends under the sun. This one reminds me so much of the 90s/2000s. Something that one of the Spice Girls or Britney Spears would have worn back in the day. Both wear my idols when I was a girl so of course this dress really made me drool! I also just realized we didn’t get any good photos of the back of this dress, but it has a really cute bow that really ties the dress together. See what I did there 😉
This is another summer uniform for me. Sandals, basket bag, and a cute dress. Easy and a way to stay cool and cute for summer. Also, couldn’t help but drool over this car while we were in Palm Springs. I can only imagine what it would be like to drive this with all of the windows down in summer.
What I’m Wearing: Dress: c/o Faithfull the Brand, Bag: Doen – Sold Out (similar here), Sandals: Urban Outfitters, Lip Gloss: c/o Chanel – Rogue Coco Gloss in Excitation

*I found this dress to run a tad small, so I would suggest sizing up!
